| Reverse description | A bold, plain cross divides the reverse field into four quarters, with the arms of the cross extending through and beyond the inner beaded circle to the outer border. Each quadrant contains a foliate or decorative element characteristic of Strasbourg municipal issues. The surrounding circular legend, in Latin, reads GLORIA* IN* EXCELSIS* DEO ET IN TERRA* PAX, the opening words of the Gloria from the Roman liturgy, separated by small star stops. The inscription and cross layout are consistent with the ecclesiastical-civic character of Strasbourg's groschen coinage. |
