Obverse description Christ enthroned facing, seated upon a high-backed throne, depicted in Byzantine iconographic style; the figure is cross-nimbate and holds the Book of Gospels with both hands. Christological monogram abbreviations IC and XC appear in the upper left and right fields respectively, with a retrograde K beneath the right abbreviation. The design closely follows the Venetian grosso prototype, rendered in the crude hammered style characteristic of medieval Bulgarian imitative coinage.
