| Obverse description | Crowned figure of King James II standing facing, holding a sceptre in his right hand and an orb or globus cruciger in his left, flanked by a caparisoned horse to the left and a heraldic beast to the right. The king is depicted in long robes beneath a crown with radiant points, rendered in the bold, somewhat stylised Gothic manner characteristic of Cypriot hammered coinage of the mid-fifteenth century. Mint marks and small ornamental stops are visible in the lower field. The surrounding legend reads in uncial Latin characters. |
