| Obverse description | Crowned and draped bust of Sigismund II Augustus facing right, rendered in the early portrait style with a high crown and ruffled collar visible at the truncation. The effigy occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading SIGIS AVG REX POL MAG DVX LIT, abbreviated in the manner typical of mid-16th century Polish-Lithuanian hammered coinage. The die engraving displays the characteristic boldness of the Vilnius mint workshop of this period. |
