Reverse description The denomination mark D·IIII fills the field within a plain inner circle, with the letter D (denoting denarii) positioned above four bold vertical strokes representing the numeral IIII, together expressing four pence or one groat. The stark, utilitarian design reflects the emergency conditions under which this siege coinage was produced by the Ormonde administration during the Irish Confederate Wars. The inner circle is enclosed within a further beaded outer border, consistent with the obverse treatment.
