Reverse description A shield of the Scottish royal arms, featuring a lion rampant within a double tressure flory-counterflory, with a rounded base, centrally impaled upon a long cross extending to the inner beaded circle. The cross divides the field into four quarters. The surrounding legend is punctuated by trefoil or colon stops and contained within a beaded inner circle. The overall design is bold and heraldically schematic, consistent with the hammered groat coinage of James V.
