Obverse description Full-face crowned effigy of James III occupying the central field, rendered in the flat, stylized manner characteristic of late medieval Scottish hammered coinage. The king is depicted facing forward with flowing hair falling to either side, wearing a crown of three prominent fleur-de-lis. The bust is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters running between the inner and outer beaded borders.
