| Obverse description | Central effigy of King James II facing forward with a crown decorated with alternating fleur-de-lis and pellet-tipped spikes. The royal portrait is rendered in the characteristic uncial style of mid-fifteenth-century Scottish coinage, with simplified facial features typical of the hammered technique. The legend encircles the bust within a beaded inner circle. The field is flat and irregular, consistent with hand-struck production of the period. |
