Reverse description A quartered royal shield of arms, bearing the lions of England and the fleurs-de-lis of France in alternating quarters, is superimposed over a long cross fourchée that extends to the coin's edge, dividing the field into four sections. The shield is rendered in a bold, slightly crude hammered style typical of mid-Tudor coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the mint legend arranged in segments between the inner and outer borders, identifying the issuing city as Canterbury.
