The effigy is rendered in a simplified, archaic hammered style typical of mid-14th-century Scottish coinage. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters reads DAVID DEI GRA REX SCOTORVM, separated by pellet stops, running clockwise within the outer beaded border. |
