Albert of Bavaria governed Holland as count from 1358 until his death in 1404, a reign marked by persistent conflict with the Hoeken and Kabeljauwen factions — a dynastic civil war that had fractured Holland for decades before his accession. His coinage reforms of the late 1380s reflect attempts to stabilize exchange in a county whose commercial arteries ran through Dordrecht and the Zuiderzee trade networks. The quadrilobe groat series fits within a broader Low Countries shift toward French-influenced silver denominations during this period.
