Obverse description Quartered shield bearing the arms of the Order of St. John impaled with the personal arms of Grand Master Hugues Loubenx de Verdala, the latter incorporating two standing wolves. The shield is centrally placed in the field, struck in the rough, irregular style characteristic of hammered coinage of the period.
