Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Faustin I facing right, wearing imperial regalia with an ornate epaulette visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief with considerable detail in the hair and laurel wreath. The circular legend FAUSTIN I EMPEREUR runs along the periphery, with a beaded border enclosing the design.

Reverse description A royal palm tree dominates the central field, beneath which a Haitian royal eagle with spread wings is displayed, perched atop a trophy of cannons and cannonballs. The circular legend LIBERTE INDEPENDANCE frames the upper periphery, while the denomination and date 1Ge. P. 1853 appear in the lower exergual area, all enclosed within a beaded border.
