The Banque Nationale d'Haïti was a Franco-Haitian institution established in 1881 under a concession granted to the Société Générale de Crédit Industriel et Commercial of Paris — not a state bank in any straightforward sense, but a private French interest holding the exclusive right to issue currency and manage government finances. The 1892 date places this note in the period following a series of brutal political upheavals that had severely strained the bank's ability to maintain convertibility.
ABNC produced most of the Banque Nationale series during this period, and the plates were used across multiple issue dates with only minimal changes. Distinguishing between printings sometimes comes down to subtle signature combinations rather than any visible design alteration.
