Additional information

The original Duchy of Courland and Semigallia ceased to exist in 1795 when Catherine the Great absorbed it into the Russian Empire following the abdication of the last duke, Peter von Biron. The "95 years" commemorated here refers to the short-lived German-backed revival declared in 1918, when the Ober Ost military administration attempted to establish a client duchy across the Baltic territories during the final months of the First World War — a political construct that collapsed before it could mint a single coin.

This 2013 bronze piece is a modern fantasy issue, carrying no governmental authority from any recognized state.
