Additional information

William IV became sole Duke of Bavaria only after forcing his younger brother Louis X into co-rule through the Landshut War of Succession, a conflict that ended in 1505 and reshaped the Bavarian territories considerably. These gulden were struck in the immediate aftermath, during a period when William was consolidating fiscal authority and standardizing coinage across newly unified ducal lands. The type is catalogued under Hahn 17 with relatively few documented survivors in better condition, consistent with active circulation rather than hoarding.
