Obverse description Quartered heraldic shield of Jülich-Berg, displaying lions and an escutcheon, superimposed upon a long cross with ornamental floral terminals extending to the coin's inner beaded border. The shield is rendered in Gothic style characteristic of late 15th-century Rhenish goldgulden. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin lettering reads WILh - DVX G - VLCh - Z BERG, identifying Duke William as the issuing authority, divided by the four arms of the cross.
