Obverse description Central shield displaying the quartered arms of Anhalt — combining the distinctive checky field with a bear passant — enclosed within a plain inner circle. The arms are rendered in the bold, slightly irregular style characteristic of early sixteenth-century hammered coinage. A Latin circular legend runs between the inner circle and the beaded outer border, reading '+ MO PNCIPVM ANHALT', identifying the coin as the money of the princes of Anhalt. The overall design reflects the heraldic conventions of the Holy Roman Empire period.
