Obverse description Quartered heraldic shield of the Archbishopric of Cologne, displaying the arms of Cologne (cross) and Mors, flanked by crossed processional staff and sword, set within a pointed gothic frame. A small six-petalled rosette appears below the shield in the lower field. The surrounding legend in Gothic-influenced Latin lettering reads THEODIC AR•EPI COLOnI, identifying Archbishop Theodoric of Cologne. The overall design is characteristic of Rhenish goldgulden heraldic coinage of the early fifteenth century.
