Obverse description Central field displays the quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Cologne surmounted by a long cross, the shield subdivided into a checky pattern characteristic of the Cologne ecclesiastical heraldry. The escutcheon is set within a beaded inner circle, with an abbreviated Gothic uncial legend surrounding it reading the archbishop's titulature. The overall design is rendered in the bold, flat relief typical of Rhenish hammered goldgulden of the mid-fifteenth century.
