Reverse description Three heraldic shields arranged in trefoil configuration around a central point, each shield suspended by its apex toward the centre in typical Rhenish Goldgulden fashion. The shield at upper right bears the arms of Mainz, the shield at upper left displays the arms of the Palatinate-Bavaria (Electoral Palatinate), and the shield at the base bears the combined arms of Trier and Helmstatt. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters records the date of issue in Roman numerals.
