Reverse description Saint John the Baptist, patron saint of the Rhenish mint confederation, is depicted standing facing in full figure. He raises his right hand in the benedictional gesture and holds in his left hand a lily-tipped scepter. The figure is rendered in the stylized Gothic manner typical of Rhenish goldgulden of the early fifteenth century. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin identifies the mint at Rhens. The field is plain, with the saint occupying the full height of the die.
