Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Maximilian II facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair. The encircling legend reads MAXIMILIAN II KÖNIG V. BAYERN, divided along the upper arc. The engraver's initials C.V. appear in small characters beneath the truncation in the lower field. The portrait is executed in a neoclassical style characteristic of Carl Friedrich Voigt's medallic work.
