Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Ludwig II facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wavy hair. The legend LUDWIG II arcs along the left field and KÖNIG V. BAYERN along the right, both in raised Latin capitals. The engraver's initials C.V. appear in small characters at the base of the bust near the lower rim. The portrait displays the youthful features of the king in a restrained neoclassical style typical of mid-19th-century Bavarian coinage. The entire design is surrounded by a plain raised rim with milled edge.
