Obverse description Enthroned frontal figure of Saint Kilian, patron saint of Würzburg, depicted wearing episcopal vestments and a crown or mitre, holding a sword in his right hand and a crozier or palm in his left. The saint is shown in a hieratic, stylized manner characteristic of late medieval hammered gold coinage. A shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Würzburg appears below the figure in the lower field. The surrounding border is beaded, with the abbreviated Latin legend of Bishop Lorenz von Bibra distributed around the periphery.
