| Reverse description | The reverse bears a seven-line memorial inscription in bold Roman capitals arranged across the field, recording the date of Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn's death and the duration of his episcopate: he died on 13 September 1617 after a reign of 43 years, 9 months, and 12 days. In the lower portion of the field, a small crowned shield bearing the Frankish rake device serves as a mint or episcopal mark, flanked by delicate foliate scrollwork. The inscription is the primary design element, filling the field in the manner typical of German commemorative death pieces of the early seventeenth century. The rim is bordered by a continuous row of beads. The overall composition reflects the solemnity and epigraphic tradition of Baroque memorial coinage. |
