Obverse description Central composite heraldic shield in trefoil form displaying the quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Trier impaled with the personal arms of Johann II of Baden, flanked by three smaller subsidiary shields in the trefoil angles bearing the arms of Trier (cross), Baden (diagonal bend), and a lion rampant respectively. The arms are rendered in the late Gothic heraldic style characteristic of Rhenish goldgulden. The circumferential legend in uncial Gothic lettering reads IOhAn` ARCEP` TREVE`, separated by annulets, running along the inner border of a beaded outer rim.
