Obverse description Full-length facing figure of Saint John the Baptist, robed and bearded, standing with arms slightly extended, holding a lamb (Agnus Dei) in his right arm — the traditional Goldgulden type derived from Florentine coinage. The date 15-40 is divided across the lower field to either side of the saint's feet. The figure is rendered in high relief in the late Gothic style characteristic of early sixteenth-century German hammered coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the Latin circumscription IOACH II D G MA BRA E 15 40 running in the outer legend.
