Additional information

George Charles of Fechenbach became Prince-Bishop of Würzburg in 1795, the same year this gulden was struck — an inauspicious moment to assume control of a secularized ecclesiastical territory with French Revolutionary armies pressing into the Rhineland. The Bishopric would survive him by only seven years; Napoleon's Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 dissolved it entirely, absorbing Würzburg into the broader reorganization of German ecclesiastical holdings.

This makes the 1795 issue effectively an opening-year piece of a reign that had no closing-year coinage worth speaking of in gold.
