Additional information

Gabriel von Eyb served as Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt from 1496 until his death in 1535, presiding over a small but strategically positioned ecclesiastical territory in Franconia. His goldgulden issues of 1511–1512 fall within the period when the Reichsmünzordnung was still years from its first serious codification — the 1524 Esslingen ordinance — leaving individual ecclesiastical mints considerable latitude in weight and fineness standards. Eichstätt's minting rights were exercised sparingly, which accounts for the low survival numbers for this type.
