Obverse description Central quartered shield of the Archbishopric of Cologne displayed over a trefoil, with three smaller heraldic shields positioned on the lobes of the trefoil, each bearing the Cologne eagle. The composition is rendered in a bold, late Gothic heraldic style typical of Rhenish goldgulden of the early fifteenth century. A circular legend in uncial characters surrounds the entire device, reading FRIDIC VS ARP VS COIn, identifying Archbishop Frederick III of Saarwerden.
