Reverse description Central heraldic shield of the Archbishopric of Mainz, displaying the distinctive six-spoked wheel of Mainz (Mainzer Rad), flanked by a standing lion rampant to the right of the shield within a lobed or cusped inner frame. The composition is arranged in the characteristic style of late medieval Rhenish goldgulden reverses. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design reading +MONETA•I•HOEST•SVP•MOGONV, identifying the mint at Höchst on the Main as the place of issue. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border, with the hammered flan showing slight irregularity at the edges.
