Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of a nimbed saint, identified as Saint Martin, standing in long episcopal vestments and holding a long cross-staff in his left hand, with a small eagle displayed between his feet. The figure is rendered in high relief in the Gothic hammered style typical of late 14th-century Rhenish goldgulden. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the circular Latin legend surrounding it in the outer field. Cross stops separate the legend elements.
