Obverse description Central field features the arms of Mainz — a six-spoked wheel — displayed on a pointed shield, itself set within a quatrefoil or trefoil frame rendered in Gothic style. The shield is surrounded by an inner beaded border, with the Gothic uncial legend occupying the outer annular field between two concentric beaded or cable borders. The design is characteristic of late 14th-century Rhenish goldgulden die-work, with bold relief and angular Gothic lettering.

Reverse description Saint Martin of Tours, patron of the Archbishopric of Mainz, is depicted enthroned in full pontifical vestments, wearing a mitre and holding a crozier in his left hand while raising his right hand in benediction. He is seated frontally on an ornate Gothic throne flanked by architectural elements. The Nassau shield — charged with a lion — appears below the throne in the lower field. The reverse legend in Gothic uncial script runs along the outer border between beaded circles, identifying the saint.
