Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the Rostock civic heraldic griffin displayed, facing left, rendered in the late medieval German goldgulden tradition. The beast is depicted with spread wings, clawed feet, and an open beak, occupying the majority of the inner field. The surrounding legend reads MONE NOVA ROSTOCHIEN, separated by a pellet stop, running clockwise along the outer margin between the beaded circle and the coin's edge.

Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed, with wings spread and talons visible below, bearing on its breast an orb or shield as imperial insignia. Above the eagle rises an elaborate imperial crown. The surrounding legend, referencing the regnal titles of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II, reads 1630 FERDINAND II D G RO I S A, running clockwise along the outer margin between the beaded circle and the dentilated rim, with the date 1630 at the commencement of the legend.
