Obverse description Within a pointed quatrefoil, the City of Cologne arms (three crowns above two horizontal bands, with foliate tendrils rather than sparks flanking the lower shield), set against a crosshatched field. In the four angles surrounding the quatrefoil are the auxiliary arms of the four Rhenish electors: Mainz (upper), Cologne (left), Trier (right), and Bavaria-Palatinate (lower). A beaded inner border frames the entire composition.
