| Reverse description | Full-length frontal figure of Saint Magnus, patron saint of Kempten, standing erect in episcopal vestments within a beaded inner circle. The saint is depicted wearing a mitre and holding a crozier in his right hand and a book or reliquary in his left, rendered in the flat, hieratic style characteristic of early Rhenish goldgulden reverses. The circular Latin legend SANCTVS. MAGNVS. encircles the figure within the outer border, with the date of issue customarily appearing at the end of the legend. The design closely follows the established iconographic tradition of late medieval German ecclesiastical coinage. |
