Obverse description Facing enthroned figure of Saint Peter, the patron saint of Cologne, seated on a Gothic architectural throne flanked by pillars, holding a key in his right hand and raising his left hand in benediction. A nimbus surrounds the saint's head, and the field is adorned with Gothic decorative elements. At the base of the design, below the throne, appears the civic arms of Cologne consisting of three crowns, emblematic of the Three Magi. The whole is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the legend running along the outer margin in uncial characters.
