Reverse description Central device consisting of an ornate quatrefoil or Gothic rosette frame enclosing a globus cruciger (orb surmounted by a cross), the civic symbol of Frankfurt, rendered in crisp hammered relief. The lobed frame is decorated with Gothic foliate scrollwork at each lobe junction. The circular legend MONETA FRANCFURT in uncial Latin letters runs along the outer periphery between two beaded borders, asserting the monetary authority of the Free Imperial City.
