| Obverse description | Central field features the crowned arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis arranged three-and-three — surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The shield is presented full-face in the Gothic heraldic tradition characteristic of early Bourbon coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design, separated from the field by a beaded inner border. The mint mark appears at the base of the shield, below the crown. The overall composition reflects the second type of ecu d'or au soleil issued under Louis XIII. |
