Obverse description Central field occupied by the elaborate papal coat of arms of Paul V (Borghese), consisting of a quartered shield displaying an eagle and a dragon, set within an ornate oval cartouche with rich foliate and scrollwork mantling. Above the shield, the crossed keys of Saint Peter are surmounted by the papal tiara. The circumferential Latin legend reads PAVLVS V P MAX A II, identifying the pontiff and his regnal year.
