| Obverse description | Papal arms of Innocent XII displayed on a baroque cartouche surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The heraldic shield bears three ewers or ampullae (alluding to the Pignatelli family arms), arranged in a triangular formation on a granulated field. The legend, divided on either side of the arms, reads INNO·XII·P·M·A·IX, identifying the pope and his regnal year. The entire design is enclosed within a finely executed border of beaded denticles. |
