| Obverse description | Central field displays the elaborate coat of arms of Pope Innocent XI (Benedetto Odescalchi), comprising a quartered shield bearing three lions passant and wavy horizontal bands, surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is supported by ornate foliate mantling extending to either side. The circular Latin legend reading INNOCEN·XI·PONT·M·A·VIII· runs along the outer rim, identifying the pontiff and his eighth regnal year, separated by decorative stops. A fine beaded inner border frames the entire composition. |
