| Reverse description | Two-line Latin motto inscription MODICVM IVSTO displayed in bold capital letters within an elaborate baroque cartouche composed of richly scrolled acanthus foliage. The cartouche is surmounted by a small papal tiara with crossed keys at the apex and flanked by symmetrical foliate ornaments, with additional decorative elements at the base. The motto, meaning 'A little to the just man,' reflects the personal device of Innocent XI and is rendered in the formal epigraphic style characteristic of late seventeenth-century papal coinage. |
