Reverse description Central device depicts the Holy Spirit as a dove descending with wings outstretched, surrounded by an elaborate glory of radiating rays that fill the field, symbolising divine guidance during the interregnum. Beneath the dove, at the base of the design, appears a small escutcheon bearing the mint mark of the Rome Mint. The circumferential Latin legend DA QVIETA TEMPORA, meaning 'Give us days of peace,' runs along the upper periphery within a beaded inner border and a milled outer rim, invoking a prayer for a peaceful conclave.

Additional information

Sede Vacante coinage was struck under the authority of the Apostolic Camera during the interval between papal reigns, with the Camerlengo serving as the de facto head of the Roman Church. In 1724, that office was held by Cardinal Annibale Albani, nephew of the recently deceased Clement XI. The vacancy was brief — Innocent XIII had died in March, and Benedict XIII was elected by May — giving the Camera a narrow window in which these pieces were produced.

Albani never became pope, despite his political influence and family connections. These Sede Vacante issues are the closest he came to striking his own coinage.
