| Obverse description | Draped and armored bust of Frederick II (Frederick the Great) facing right, wearing a cuirass decorated with scrollwork and epaulettes, with a flowing cravat at the neck and a ribbon-tied queue visible behind the shoulder. The king's hair is rendered in tight curls framing the face in the contemporary Baroque style. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading FRIDERICVS · D : G : REX BOR : S : SIL : D :, identifying the monarch as King of Prussia by the grace of God and Duke of Silesia. The portrait is finely engraved with strong relief, characteristic of Berlin Mint workmanship of the mid-eighteenth century. |
