| Reverse description | A Kagu (Rhynochetos jubatus), the endemic flightless bird of New Caledonia and the territory's heraldic emblem, is depicted standing in right profile amid grass tufts at the centre of the field. Flanking the bird on either side are symmetrical sprigs of native foliage with spreading branches, their tips rising to frame the denomination numeral 1 at the top of the field.
