Obverse description Left-facing effigy of King Leopold II of Belgium, rendered in high relief with finely detailed features and naturalistic modelling characteristic of the Belgian Art Nouveau medallic tradition. The king is depicted bare-headed with a full beard. The circular legend in Dutch reads LEOPOLD II KONING DER BELGEN (Leopold II, King of the Belgians), with the engraver's signature TH. VINÇOTTE incused at the lower obverse. The coin is bordered by a beaded inner circle.
