Obverse description Bare-headed, bearded effigy of King Leopold II facing left, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair and full beard in the academic portrait style characteristic of Léopold Wiener. The truncation of the neck is clean and unadorned. A circular legend surrounds the portrait reading LEOP. II R. D. BELG. SOUV. DE L'ETAT INDEP. DU CONGO, with the engraver's signature L. WIENER incused along the lower rim beneath the bust. The inner border is plain, with a beaded outer border framing the entire design.
