Obverse description Left-facing bust of an Arawak man rendered in low relief, wearing a feathered headband, enclosed within a raised inner circle. The designer's signature A. PATEY appears within the circle at the lower field. The encircling legend reads RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE GUADELOUPE ET DÉPENDANCES, affirming both the metropolitan authority and the colonial territory. The portrait reflects the Beaux-Arts academic style characteristic of Patey's engraving work for French colonial issues of the period.
